About the city of Wuhan

Wuhan, situated in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, is a national central city in central China. It has a permanent population of 10.76 million and spans an area of 8,594 square kilometers, with a quarter of its area covered by water. The Wuhan Design Biennale serves as a symbol of the city’s ambition to become a “City of Design,” fostering cross-border integration of industries and facilitating international exchanges. On November 1, 2017, Wuhan was recognized as a creative city of design, following in the footsteps of Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing. With its abundant historical and cultural resources, scientific and technological talent, and expertise in engineering design, Wuhan harnesses the power of creative design as a key driver for sustainable development. By merging creative design with the city’s culture, economy, society, lifestyle, and environment, Wuhan infuses the city’s rich history with new energy and vitality.
