Breads of the Creative Cities is an ongoing project of CK Foundation in partnership with Tucson City of Gastronomy.

The project extends the definition of “bread” to include any local staple food that uses a local flour and plays a culturally significant role in the heritage of a  community

The project originated from the “Days of Bread” event held in Krakow, Poland, during the uccn xii annual meeting (June 2018).

The project is inspired by the spirit of the 2001 UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, which states that “Respect for the diversity of cultures, tolerance, dialogue and cooperation, in a climate of mutual trust and understanding are among the best guarantees of international peace and security.”

The key words on which our work is based are:

SEMPLICITY

The project is understood and is accessible to all people of the world, overcoming any age, religion, gender, ethnicity and social differences

UNIVERSALITY

Any community has «a culturally significant food made with a local flour»

FLEXIBILITY

The format allows to create local and international variations of the projects

The most universal of all dietary staple is synonymous at the same time with connection and diversity between the various cultures of the world. A collective theme such as bread also helps to reason about global issues, such as green agriculture, nutrition, sustainable development of local communities.

The stories of the products and bakers were collected through the Creative Knowledge Platform, highlighting the unique creative assets of the territories.
