Discover the Traditional Bread from Östersund, Sweden
About the city of Östersund

Östersund, located in central Sweden, is a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy renowned for its sustainable gastronomic culture. The city connects small entrepreneurs and farmers through Eldrimner, the Swedish National Centre for Small-Scale Artisan Food Processing, which offers guidance and training in food production. Östersund’s culinary traditions are deeply rooted in its natural surroundings and sustainable practices. The food sector’s management involves collaboration between the city and the Jämtland Härjedalen region, strengthening urban-rural connections. Recognizing local culture as essential for sustainable development, Östersund received the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO Prize in 2017 and was named Sweden’s Best Climate City in 2010. The region’s creative sector is steadily growing, with about 2,000 companies and over 4,000 employees, while tourism also significantly contributes to the local economy.
