About the city of Nkongsamba

Nkongsamba, Cameroon, joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Gastronomy, drawing on its deep agricultural roots and vibrant food culture. The region is especially known for its coffee, cultivated since the colonial era, and Penja pepper, prized by chefs worldwide.
The city promotes its culinary heritage through festivals like DYOM, Ekala Mba Ni Nkem, and Moungo Land, which bring communities together and highlight local flavors. Public and community actors work in partnership to preserve traditional food practices and support short supply chains.
Ongoing efforts include the creation of a Coffee Museum and the development of the “Moungo Taste Trail,” a tourism initiative aimed at showcasing Nkongsamba’s rich gastronomic landscape while promoting sustainable agriculture.
