Discover the Traditional Bread from Kırşehir, Turkey

About the city of Kırşehir

Located in central Turkey, Kırşehir is known for its rich folk music, particularly Anatolian folk music represented by three main styles: Abdal, Bozlak, and saz. The region is celebrated for the synchronous playing of violin and saz by folk music masters. One of the most notable composers from Kırşehir is Neşet Ertaş (1938-2012), recognized as a living human treasure by UNESCO in 2008. Kırşehir hosts various international cultural events, with the Ahi-Order Festivals being the most significant. Named after Ahi Evran-ı Veli, an influential figure in Turkish history, these festivals celebrate the social and economic contributions of the Ahi organization. As a UNESCO Creative City of Music, Kırşehir Municipality promotes culture and creativity through innovative and sustainable approaches. The municipality has established a community of Abdals to encourage intergenerational musical dialogue, ensuring the preservation of local music culture. Participatory projects aim to expand these activities further in the future.
