Frutillar's heritage and traditions

Discover the Traditional Bread from Frutillar, Chile

About the city of Frutillar

Frutillar, a Creative City of Music in southern Chile, has around 20,000 residents and is located on Llanquihue Lake, offering stunning views of volcanoes and forests. Its vibrant music scene is influenced by traditions from German immigrants who settled in the area around 1850. The Festival de Semanas Musicales de Frutillar, initiated by locals 50 years ago, is a key cultural event. Initially held in the Municipal Gymnasium, it has since moved to the Teatro del Lago, built in 2010 with private support, which also offers a year-round artistic program. Frutillar attracts over 60,000 visitors annually, thanks to its diverse artistic initiatives. The local school of arts focuses on music and dance, enriching the community’s artistic experiences. Notably, the creative industry accounts for nearly 6% of local sales, making up 50% of the city’s enterprises.
