Discover the Traditional Bread from Bergamo, Italy
About the city of Bergamo

Bergamo, a city of 120,000 inhabitants, is at the crossroads of the Cheese Valleys. Goat farming and agriculture have long supported the local population, preserving ancient skills and craftsmanship that are still in practice today. Renowned for its traditional cheese-making process, the region produces award-winning cheeses and boasts a thriving culinary sector. The agriculture, food, and beverage industries generate nearly USD 900 million annually, providing around 8,000 jobs. Bergamo also recognizes the need for a sustainable gastronomic industry. In 2015, during the World Expo, the city signed the ‘Milan Urban Food Policy’ pact with 187 cities to combat food waste and promote sustainable systems. In 2017, Bergamo hosted the G7 Agriculture Summit on the future of nutrition and agricultural development, organizing the “Agriculture Week and Right to Food” festival, which attracted over 106,000 visitors. These initiatives reflect the city’s commitment to creating a more sustainable and equitable society through collaboration in the agricultural sector.
