The Bread Creativity Event, held on December 21th, 2024, took place during the visit of the Italian training ship Amerigo Vespucci to Doha, Qatar. Organized by the Creative Knowledge Foundation and the International Cooperation and Government Department of Qatar Museums, the event was hosted at Mama’s Cuisine restaurant. The event featured a unique collaboration between Italian baker Donato Taronna, from Monte Sant’Angelo (Puglia’s 2024 City of Culture), and Qatari chef Hissa Al Sulaiti. Together, they crafted a special bread that merged tradition and innovation, symbolizing the cultural richness of both Italy and Qatar. This partnership celebrated the art of baking, highlighting cultural diversity as a source of inspiration and unity. It reflected values of solidarity, mutual respect, and the preservation of traditional knowledge, demonstrating how bread can serve as a universal symbol of connection between nations.
The Bread Creativity Event was inspired by the Breads of the Creative Cities Meetings, part of the “Breads of the Creative Cities” project—an initiative led by Tucson UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and the Creative Knowledge Foundation, with Koor Benefit Corporation as a technology partner. It was also linked to the “Bread Between Us” project, developed by the Creative Knowledge Foundation with Archi.Media Trust and Koor Benefit Corporation. These projects were conceived in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and the Arabian Peninsula, aim to foster creativity and collaboration by blending tradition with innovation.
