Are you a traditional baker, miller or farmer from UNESCO Creative City?

“DAYS OF BREAD” I Edition of Breads of the Creative Cities project, 2018

The first edition of the Breads of the Creative Cities project was launched as part of the Days of Bread Celebration, which took place during XII UNESCO Creative City Annual Meeting in Wolnica Square, Kraków.
The Creative Knowledge Foundation, in collaboration with Tucson Creative City of Gastronomy and Kraków Creative City Literature, leveraged the Creative Knowledge Platform, an heri-telling platform, to showcase the stories and recipes of traditional local breads and the bakers who create them.

Building on the success of this initiative—and with the goal of encouraging participation from all UNESCO Creative Cities—the concept of “bread” was expanded beyond its traditional definition. In this project, “breadrepresents any staple food made by mixing local ingredients (with some form of flour being essential) to create a culturally significant dish within a community

The inspiration for this broader perspective comes directly from the words of the event organizers in Kraków: “Bread is a symbol of fecundity and miracles, generosity and sharing… It plays a fundamental role in both social and culinary culture, providing nourishment and sustenance. Its methods of preparation and associated traditions are as diverse as the world itself.”
Breads of the Creative Cities is the first and only inter-cluster project within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
